For genital herpes treatment patients should be advised that the duration of treatment may shorten the recurrence of the episode. When treatment with aciclovir is started, a small amount of aciclovir (5 to 10 mg/day) is given every 3 to 4 days during the active and dormant phases of the menstrual cycle. Aciclovir should be continued for 5 days in order to allow the virus to resume before the shedding starts. Treatment should be continued for 10 days in order to observe a recurrence of the episode. When treatment with aciclovir is started, a small amount of aciclovir (5 to 10 mg/day) is given every 12 to 14 days during the active and dormant phases of the menstrual cycle. Aciclovir should be continued for 5 days in order to observe a recurrence of the episode.
Side Effects:Most patients do not experience any side effects during treatment with aciclovir. Some of the common side effects of aciclovir include headache, sore throat, nausea and vomiting. In rare cases a number of other effects may occur including rash, blisters, and sun sensitivity, which may progress to more serious problems including anaphylaxis. If any of these effects persist or become severe, consult your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.Do not use aciclovir if you are hypersensitive to aciclovir or to any of the excipients.
Strictly follow your doctor, which may not cover all ingredients.
